John Colenbrander, Technical Director
“Think of everything you know about engineers then forget all of it.”

  • From his early days as a newspaper delivery boy, John realized that service to the customer is what sets you apart. A service-orientation was enhanced during John's early work life, which was peppered with stints as a physical security analyst, travelling salesman, and ski lift operator. From play with Lego and Meccano came gravity-powered soap-box cars and self-built wooden boats, eventually leading to engineering school. Prototype-making and design validation have become his technical passion. During his masters, John prototyped and tested a non-thermal plasma pollution control device, enhancing his thermofluidic studies. Prior to joining Cooler, John was in charge of engineering and design at his family's wheelchair accessible vehicle business, which involved frequent visits to the crash test centre, to validate his designs and the workmanship of his staff.

Living in Burlington, John has a love for Hamilton and cycling, harvesting the "free time" on the GO Train, growing veggies in the family garden, and is looking for ways to bring an infant out in a kayak. At Cooler, John is the owner of all things engineering (mechanical design, validation, etc), is a project manager, and is always working towards expanding his creative reality.
